Well as you might or might not know I went to Amsterdam about two weeks ago for 5 days. I was meant to be doing a half marathon but lack of training and lack of fitness prevented me from actually doing it.The week I was due to go I decided I'd get up earlier each morning and go to bed earlier each evening basically because I had to get up just before 2am on the day I was flying out to Amsterdam and wanted to get some sleep before I went so I didn't need to sleep when I got there and waste a day. So the Monday night I went to bed at 11 and got up the following morning at 7am, that night I went to bed at 10pm and got up the following morning I got up at 6am. Then that night I went to bed at (you guessed it) 9pm and get up at 5am on the Thursday morning (the day before I was going). That evening I had to be in bed at 7pm to get 8 hours or so I thought...I wasn't always good at maths hahaha. So that day I kept myself busy and did as much as I could and then 7pm came but I still had things to do and I wasn't pleased because I was shattered because basically I'd not been getting 8 hours sleep at night. I'd been getting about 6 and was pretty knackered so when 7pm was here I was just wanting my bed. I didn't get to bed until around 8:30pm and I thought some sleep is better than non and fell asleep around 9pm but I didn't get to sleep as much as I could of done as I kept waking up thinking my alarm had failed to go off.About 10 minutes before 2am my first (of three) alarms went off. That woke me but I was still half and half and nodded off to sleep but a minute later my second alarm went off and I was fully awake then so when my third (and louded) went off I almost had a heart-attack and rushed to turn it off before the neighbour banged on the wall (like he likes to do for no reason).I went down to find food as I had last eaten about 4pm and was hungry and I had saved 2 slices of bread so I could have some toast but it wasn't there. My dad had been pub, come home and eaten the bread even though I said it was for my breakfast so I wasn't pleased. Drink makes you forget things, well it does in his case!! So I just had a cereal bar and a mini fresh fruit salad I'd saved for the taxi ride. I jumped in the shower and rushed because for some reason I seemed to be running out of time. I got out of the shower and dressed and by this point it was after 3am and there was no sign of my dad so I basically had to bang on his door so hard it hurt my hands because he wasn't for waking. I then said if he didn't get up he'd miss the flight (which was very true). He'd not even packed!!I dried my hair, put a little make up on, finished my hair, packed everything else and was ready for 3:40am. My dad then realised he couldn't find his passport!! OMG!! That was stressful. To be honest I wasn't at all shocked because he loses everything but to lose that when we were leaving at 4am wasn't a good thing. He knew it had to be in his bedroom so he basically threw things all over the place before realising it was in his jacket pocket Then he went to pick up Mick who was coming with us and was too lazy to get a taxi down here.Whilst I was waiting I double checked I had everything and turned everything off and left one light on so at night it would look like it normally does and then I was ready to go. My dad came back with Mick and 60 seconds later the taxi was here.
First we picked up Steve who lives across the otherside of Blackburn before having to go Humcoat to pick his mate Graham who was also running. As we got nearer to Grahams I was starting to feel really sick and was glad when we stopped and the door opened as the fresh air came in but 5 minutes later I felt like I was gonna throw up and I had to swap with Steve and sit in the front with the window open. It took about 10 minutes for the severe sickness to go away but I still felt a little sick for the rest of the journey and I was very glad to see the airport and very happy to get out into the fresh air.
We checked in and I was wanting to find food. We found somewhere and all the chilled drinks were warm and the sandwiches were a price I wasn't going to pay so I got a banana hahaha. I kept needing to go to the toilet, I must of went about 4 times in 15 minutes and my dad kept saying it was nerves and I didn't feel nervous but I guess it was that as after the second time I didn't really need to go but I felt like I did. I then went one more time and when I came out my dad was outside saying they'd done the second call for the plane and we were gonna miss the plane so there was a mad rush to get it and it turns out there was another ten minutes of boarding time left. We found our seats and I put the seatbelt on although we weren't meant to and then it was annoucned that if anyone had theirs on to take it off *lol*. It was my first flight so I didn't know any better. I didn't feel nervous, just curious to what it was like to fly so I was asking lots of questions to my dad and he was getting a little annoyed with them as he didn't know all the answers. I think we were sat there for 30 minutes before we were pushed backwards and started to go to the run way. It was still dark outside but in the distance was a red light showing so the sun was going to come up in the next 30 minutes and I've not seen a sunset in years hahaha. Anyway we ended up waiting somewhere for ages whilst lots of planes took off around us and finally it was our turn. The plane turned and got onto a road leading to the run way and all of a sudden it was going super fast and it started to take off and we were pushed back in the seats and I felt fine then all of a sudden it started to turn sharply to the right as it was still going up and my all body just went numb and it was like I was watching the whole thing and wasn't there at all. Then the worst feeling of sickness came all over my body, my stomach was in my mouth and I felt soooo ill. OMG! I don't think that I have ever felt so sick in my whole life and here I was with this numb sick feeling in all of my body and I was finding it hard to breath. This turning went on for ages and stopped for a little while before more turning and I couldn't cope with it. I suffer motion sickness but I've never had it like this before and every time the plane turned I was doing all I could to stop myself from being sick. Eventually there was no turned and the air hostess came with food and I got a diet coke and some mini chedders (although I don't like them it's all they had) to try and settle my stomach. I could barely talk or move at this point because any movement made me feel like I was going to throw up because I felt intensly sick. So I struggled with the mini chedders and managed half a pack and most of the diet coke before the captain started to desend and OMG just before then I was started to come round and feel human again although I felt sick I was feeling better than I had done so far. I was fine as we were descending but then we went into some very thick and heavy clouds and the atmosphere in the plane became heavy again and it felt almost as bad as it did when we were turning. It must of taken us ten minutes to get out of those clouds and I felt dreadful. In fact I felt so sick I had the sick bag in my hands because I didn't think I'd be able to hold it in.Luckily I wasn't sick and we soon landed and I felt a little better by the time we landed but then as we were taxaing down the run way to where the plane stops I started to feel very sick again and just wanted the plane to stop so I could get off. I think it took another 5 minutes to stop and I was happy when it did I can tell you because I was so close to being sick.
I waited until everyone got off because I needed to make sure my stomach stopped spinning otherwise I probably would of been sick when the fresh air hit me. We left the plane and OMG we walked for about 30 minutes to get to the luggage - that airport is huge!!We got the luggage and met up with the others we had travelled with and then went and got 2 train tickets each so we could travel to the central station and then get the tram to the hotel. Now it was time for another experience.... a double decker train!! I aint joking either. It was a train with a upstairs and a downstairs. At first I thought I was imagining it hahaha. We got on and it was packed and I had to drag my suitcase upstairs and stand. Luckily it was 3 stops away and we were soon off it and getting a 4 day tram ticket. We then found what we thought was the tram stop after a lot of standing around but then decided to eat so we dragged our suitcases to a little cafe and sat outside. I had the most amazing continetal breakfast and a cup of tea before we made our way to the trams. Then the tram came and those three rushed for it and as my dad was rushed I was nearly hit by a fast moving tram and managed to jump back and not get hit.Bu the time the tram had fully got passed those three were on the tram and my dad was waiting for me. We rushed to the tram but the driver shut the doors and drove off - nice!!I went to the toilet (30 cents) and then came back and found the tram stop and got on the tram (number 17) and we were on it for what seemed like forever before seeing our hotel and getting off the stop after it. Then we wondered how we were going to get to the hotel and found a underground bypass and with a little help from someone we were able to finally find the hotel!!
To be continued....
